Whatever your level from elementary to advanced; learning French in Lyon is the best way to accelerate your language learning experience. Immerse yourself in the local French culture and progress rapidly practising your new found skills in your free time.

Combine your French course with learning about Lyon's rich gastronomic culture on this French and Gastronomy course in the UNESCO city of Lyon.

In the mornings, you'll be taught to speak French by highly qualified native French speakers who have a passion for teaching and use proven language teaching techniques.

In the afternoons, you will take part in many cultural activities centred around the history of cuisine and culture in Lyon. Activities include guided tours of fascinating museums and areas of Lyon and one evening you will enjoy an intimate cooking demonstration chez Janine followed by a tasting of the delicious food. Immerse yourself in the delicious cuisine as well as fantastic cookery themed activities while practicing and perfecting your French language skills.

- This course is NOT suitable for beginner French learners

When can I start?
- The school is open year round with a break for Christmas
- French and gastronomy courses start on selected Mondays throughout the year
- If you choose to book the optional accommodation, you will arrive on the Sunday before the course and depart on the Saturday after the course

What are the typical students like?
- People come from all over the world and you’ll never be placed in a class with just English speakers so that you use the language you are learning rather than resorting to chatting in English
- Ages vary, but the typical language learner falls in to the 20-60 age bracket though we have no age limit and we’ve had guests in their 70s and 80s studying languages with us
- During the summer and in university holiday times the average age typically drops and there are many guests in their 20s
- Over 90% of our language learners travel solo and every school organises social and cultural activities to help you get to know others at the school outside of class
- Of course, everyone shares a passion or interest in discovering a new language and culture

A typical day
- French language lessons start at 9am
- Please note that classes start at 9.45am on Monday
- Classes run daily Monday through to Friday each week
- You will have 3 group classes per day lasting 45 minutes each
- There will be a short coffee break between lessons
- Gastronomy activities take place at various time throughout the week in the afternoon or evening and you will be given a full timetable on arrival

What will I learn during the gastronomy course?
- Lyon is famous for its wines and gastronomy so this course is perfect for discovering Lyon’s cuisine and traditions
- During the week you will take part in a cooking demonstration and gastronomy guided tours around Lyon where you will discover Lyon’s food specialities and history and learn about French cooking traditions
Please note this is an example timetable and is subject to change due to availability of the excursions
- On Monday you will have a guided orientation tour of Lyon where your guide will point out and tell you about the history of the city's bistrots, chocolatiers, patissiers and many more
- On Tuesday there is a tasting session at a local cooking school or producer (this depends on the season and the exact activity will be confirmed on arrival)
- On Wednesday you will join sommelier, Laurent, for a wine tasting where you will sample some delicious French wines
- On Thursday there is a guided tour of one of Lyon's famous 'quartiers' so you can get to know the city from the eyes of a local
- The week finishes with a cooking demonstration held chez Janine who will show you how to prepare typical Lyonnais dishes followed by a tasting of the delicious food in good company
- Learn lots of new French vocabulary related to food and cooking
- All the extra activities will be in French so this is a perfect way to practise and development your French language skills

What can I do after the language lessons?
- Many people on language holidays travel solo so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the French way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
- Guided tours of the historical town centre of Lyon and its museums and galleries
- Tastings of local products, such as, wine, cheese, chocolate and much more
- Excursions to the Alps to ski in the winter months 
- Parties and picnics
- Afternoon trips on the Rhône
- Cinema visits
- Theatre workshops
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just kick back and relax on this language learning holiday

- This language school offers optional accommodation staying with a local French family to immerse yourself in the French culture and practice your French
